Peggy Gonzales (née Garcia) of Yermo, CA, 78, was called home to His heavenly kingdom on June 9, 2020. Born as the 7th of 13 children to Pablo and Maryann Garcia (née Quintana) in Guadalupita, NM on June 27, 1941, Peggy established herself as a daring and independent individual early on. She had a quick wit, an infectious sense of humor, and an easy confidence that commanded a room and charmed the pants off of anyone in her path. Alfredo “Fred” Gonzales was enchanted by Peggy when he first met her at the diner where she worked in Plainview, TX. They married in November of 1960. Being married to a U.S. Marine, Peggy made her home in many locations throughout the United States as well as an accompanied tour in South Korea. She and Fred spent their almost 60 years of marriage raising a family, traveling, and spoiling their granddaughters. They settled in Yermo, CA 37 years ago and spent those years reveling in the beautiful mountains of the Mojave. Peggy was an incredible force throughout her life. She loved so fiercely and with such joy, and it was felt as a warm hug even by those who barely knew her. She especially showed love and patience to children, becoming an adopted mother/grandmother to many. Children who grew up as friends and neighbors of Peggy and Fred’s granddaughters remember being welcomed into her home to play, to be fed, and to be loved. Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Anna Maria Orawczyk (née Gonzales), her brother Bobby and sisters Dora, Martha, Pauline, Ruth, and Susie. She is survived by her husband Fred Gonzales of Yermo, CA, their son Max of Tempe, AZ, their son-in-law Joe Orawczyk of Yermo, CA, and two granddaughters Maryann Orawczyk of Lansing, MI and Mrs. Sarah Ridnor (née Orawczyk) of Torrance, CA. Peggy is also survived by her brother Tony and her sisters Rusty, Dilly, Marylou, Stella, and Willie. She will be remembered as a beautiful, funny, kind, and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She is missed fiercely by so many. May she rest in peace, and may she be reunited in the eternal kingdom with her daughter and family.
