Lenora S. Roman was born on July 1, 1931 to proud parents Eloisa and Raymond Sandoval. She was the youngest of nine children raised in the Barelas neighborhood in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949. While in high school she worked at Mcallen’s Drug Store and at the concession stand at Tingley Field. Lenora was hired as a Secretary at Kirtland Army Air Field, and later went on to work for, and become a supervisor at, the Veterans Administration. It was during this time she met, Fran, her husband of 45 years. She resigned from Civil Service in 1972 to stay home and take care of their three children. A job transfer for her husband in 1981 landed the family in Barstow, California. She soon went back to work for Civil Service at the Marine Corps Logistics Base where she worked for the Maintenance Division. After more than 30 years of Civil service she retired. Lenora was very involved in the Roman Catholic Church her whole life, first at Sacred Heart Church and Holy Rosary Church in Albuquerque. She had undying support for her husbands work as a Deacon. She referred to him as a “Servant of God”, and in turn, referred to herself as the “Helper of the Servant”. Lenora lead a life strong in faith and believed in the endless power of prayer. She loved her community at St. Joseph Church in Barstow, where she served as a communion distributer and enjoyed the fellowship of all the church members.
Lenora was preceded in death by her husband Deacon Francis Roman, son Martin Roman and siblings Patricia Olinski, Vina Sesma, Rosalie Romankiw, Vera Gutierrez, John Sandoval, Raymond Sandoval, Frank Sandoval, and Fred Sandoval.
Lenora is survived by her daughter Laurianna Sargent; son Benedict Roman and his life partner Connie Angeles; grandsons, Wyatt Starr, Jack Sargent, Derek Roman, Ben Roman and Alysia Hernandez; great granddaughters Jade and Mila; Cousin Gloria Perrine and her husband John; sons-in-law Chris Starr and Jim Sargent.
Lenora was a loving mother, grandmother, friend and mentor to many, and will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barstow, CA on March 12, 2018; Rosary at 10:00 am; Funeral Mass at 11:00; Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park.
