He Lived his entire life in the house where he was born. He is survived by his two sisters Gwendolyn Sampson, Margie Lee Myers and one brother, the late Sterling H. Fletcher; several nieces, nephews and caring friends and neighbors.
Roland graduated from Baltimore City College February 1943 and enlisted in the Navy that month. He attended boot camp at Bainbridge, Maryland; then transferred to Electrician School in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated and was promoted to a Third Class Electrician. He was then sent to Treasure Island, California to attend Gyro Compass School. Upon graduating, he was promoted to Second Class Electrician.
He was assigned to serve aboard the USS, Chester, a Heavy Cruiser. The USS Chester was a part of an all out assault on the Japanese Fleet and land forces during World War II. He served abroad in the Pacific Theater until Japan surrendered in 1945.
He attended the University of Baltimore and graduated in 1950 with a BS Degree in Business Administration.
After college, he enlisted in the Army Reserve as a Staff Sgt. After attending school and several courses, he was promoted to 2ND LT. He finally retired after twenty years with the rank of Major in the United States Army.
Roland also retired from Baltimore Gas and Electric Company as a Supervisor in the Merchandise Department . He was with the company for 33 years.
He stayed home to take care of his Father, Dewy H. Fletcher, who passed at home at the age of 78, and his Mother Margie M, who also passed in the family home at the age of 88. Roland passed at the same home on June 23, 2017 at the age of 93.
