Michael A. Popoli (Mike), age 86, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 11, 2015 in hospice care at Stella Maris. Born in Highlandtown in Baltimore, MD, he was a notable figure in the Baltimore music scene for over 25 years as the lead singer and saxophone player for the Reds Popoli band. He carried on this music tradition in the National Guard band as well as the Baltimore Colts Marching Band.
Also an avid sports enthusiast and accomplished local athlete, Mike was very proud to be inducted into the Baltimore Boys of Summer Hall of Fame in 2012.
Mike received his Engineering degree, which he completed at night, from the University of Maryland. He retired from Westinghouse in 1991 after 25 years as an industrial engineer.
Mike is survived by his wife of 48 years, Roberta Popoli (nee Myers); his six children which he touted as his greatest achievement, Michele Ford (nee Manning), Diane Thomas (nee Manning), Michael Manning, Timothy Popoli, Lisa Kilian (nee Popoli), and Christopher Popoli; and 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was one of 11 children and is survived by his six siblings, Rose Ader, Lawrence Popoli, Anthony Popoli, Marie Palacorolla, Margaret Callinan, and Stephanie Rockstroh. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
