Paul Gary Shaw

Paul was born in Mena Arkansas on November 23,1940to John Paul Shaw and Doris Shaw (Dover). He attended East Bakersfield High School and Bakersfield High School where he graduated in 1958. Paul also attended Bakersfield College and graduated from San Jose State. He joined the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier in 1959 where he served the people of California for 50 years , retiring in 2009.Paul married the love of his life Geraldine Shaw (Abney) in 1971. They were married for 52 years and have two children together.

Paul was a devout christian and remained an active member of his church until his passing. He served as head usher at Canyon Hills Church. He loved sports and could recite stats from memory on anything from boxing to baseball and football. Paul was a jokester and had a very competitive side. He was the marble champion at Horace Mann Elementary School and the JBA Champion coach for many years for Wayne’s Dairy. If you ever played Yahtzee with him you would have seen that look in his eye- especially if you were winning. He was unwaveringly devoted to God, his wife, children and grandchildren.

Paul is survived by his wife Geri Shaw, son James Shaw, daughter Deborah Shaw, daughter-in-law Toni Shaw, son-in-law Dave Katz, brother Larry Shaw, sister Linda Jensen Darby (Shaw), granddaughter Skylar Shaw, grandson Brody Shaw, nephews Geoff Shaw, Thomas Shaw, Steffen Jensen and Darren Jensen.

He is preceded in death by his grandmother “Granny” Ruby Jones Shaw Chaplin, father John Paul Shaw, mother Doris Roney (Dover), stepmother Alene Shaw (Adorjan), son Michael Ray Shaw, son Robert “Robbie” Gary Shaw and cousin Ann Krauter (West)

A visitation will occur from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306. A funeral service will occur Friday, December 22, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield, CA. A graveside service will occur Friday, December 22, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd, Bakersfield, CA.
