Mona was preceded in death (3 years to the day) by her husband of 62 years, Robert; son, Rod; her parents; sister, Bernice Siler (and Richard); brothers Floyd (and Chris), Glen (and Johnie), Arnold (and Jean), Paul (and Ava Lee), Robert (and Eleanor), and Harold (and Bernadine).
Survivors who will always love and dearly miss her, and be forever grateful for her love and nurturing are her daughter, Shirle Hall; son, David ( Elaine); daughter-in-law, Patty Newbold (Ed Short); grandchildren Adam Decker, Jeff Hall, Alex Gretlein ( Arshia), Alyssa Gretlein and Ryan Gretlein; great-grandchildren Ethan Decker, Tyler Hall, Benjamin Decker, Nathan Hall, Rehan Gretlein, Heba Gretlein, and Faizan Gretlein; sister-in-law, MaryAnn (Jerry ) Stewart; and many nieces and nephews.
Mona spent her formative years in Coffeyville, Kansas, where she worked at the local drugstore's soda fountain and was a proud member of the Tornado Tillies pep squad. She later won a national sewing competition in Las Vegas, Nevada, where the prize was a Singer sewing machine attesting to her life long creative skill as a seamstress (including ball gowns and wedding dresses).
Upon arrival in Bakersfield, California, she was employed by Kern General Hospital as a stenographer, then Pacific Bell as a telephone operator. She was a medical secretary for Drs. Foote, Gordon Osborn, and James Johnston and became one of the "go-to" secretaries to open and close down offices in Bakersfield. In addition to the above, she always found time to conduct Hooper radio surveys. She was a Girl Scout Leader and would volunteer as the neighborhood canvasser for many charities.
Mona loved playing Bunco and cards (especially Bridge), as well as almost any board game, with friends and family. She also bowled regularly until she was no longer able to do so, physically. She had so many talents (including being a pretty mean marble shooter), but will best be remembered for her green thumb landscaping skills and her ability to cook the largest and best spreads for any occasion where all were welcome. With heavy hearts we say 'thank you' and ' good bye' but are so relieved that she is in pain-free peace with her Lord and Savior.
In a written note she stated that she always thought she had the very greatest of all families.
Mona died in Bakersfield, California. Her graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 11:00 am at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, California 93306.
Those carrying her to rest will be her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
