She graduated from East High in 1952, and married Dick Porter. They had a son Scott in 1953 and a daughter Vicki in 1954.
Joyce was a mover and a shaker when it came to her occupation. She worked at the Morris Plan and California Republic Bank, in Bakersfield, until 1982. During this time she also did local radio commercials for Dr. Ratty's Optical office. She then moved to Yucca Valley to work in new independent bank started by Dave Vordermark, formerly of California Republic Bank. 1982 was the year for move and change. And thus she met the love of her life and best friend, Dick Schwartz, at a Bank of Yucca Valley picnic. They married on December 10, 1983. And just celebrated 34 years in each other's arms. They lived in Yucca Valley until moving to Bakersfield in 2011.
In 1987 she assisted then President, Dale Kirkpatrick, in starting up Bank of the Desert in La Quinta. She would later open branches in Indio and Thousand Palms. She was responsible for investing the banks money and keeping the book in compliance for the federal regulators. She retired in 1994 as Vice President/Chief Financial Officer at Bank of the Desert. Joyce fell right back into her passions and hobbies when retiring. Golf, bowling and seeing new sights were on her checklist. Her favorites were New England, in the fall, Bermuda, Ireland and Rome.
Joyce was granted her heavenly wings with her family and husband right by her side, due to complications from four recent seizures. Awaiting her in heaven are her Father Alvin Goodrich and Mother Ann Burger, Step father Ernie Burger. Sisters Donna Toovey, Dorothy Binney and husband Gerald Binney. A niece Dana (Goodrich) Deane and Nephew Alan Goff.
Joyce is survived by Husband Dick Schwartz, Brother Dick Goodrich and wife Joanne, Son Scott V. Porter and wife Terrie, Daughter Vicki Meadows and husband Dennis, Granddaughter Julie Ingram and husband Justin, Grandson Jared Meadows and wife Michelle, Granddaughter Shanna Stahl and husband Darren, Grandson Sean Porter and wife Jazmil, Grandson Scott R. Porter and wife Celeste and nine Great-Grandchildren.
