Josefina P. Holguin August 6, 1927 - April 19, 2012 Josefina was born in Cd. Juarez, Mexico to Eduvigez Holguin and Josefa Padilla. She is a descendent of the Spanish pioneers who settled New Mexico in the seventeenth century; and descendent of the valiant Holguin (Olguin) clan who is immortalized in Walter Prescostt Webb's The Texas Rangers. She came to California in 1958 seeking work. She toiled the fields of the Central Valley working at what ever was available finally working at the old Gro-Pack Carrot Shed. She was a member of the Sociedad de Oro. In 1965 she and her soul mate Francisco (Pancho) Bernal took over the El Charro Cafe on East 19th St in Bakersfield. They both ran it until Pancho's passing in 1979. Josefina continued to run the establishment until 1997 when she retired. Josefina is preceded in death by her parents and all her brothers and sisters. She leaves behind her son Raul Amparan-Holguin and his partner John Hernandez; her dear sister-in-law Raquel Holguin; dear friend Beatrice Moretin; numerous nieces and nephews and countless long-time friends. Josefina enjoyed life to the fullest. Her greatest highlights in life were being chosen queen for the Sociedad de Oro and her trip with her friends to Hawaii. She enjoyed the little soirees at home including the "tamale fests" Josefina enjoyed nothing better than a Bud light. It is indeeds with a heavy heart we say "adios Josefina".
