Jean Elizabeth Stickler went to be with the Lord on August 13, 2013. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jean was born on October 13, 1921 to Orrin and Gertrude Kettelman and she grew up in Lodi, CA. Jean came to Bakersfield in 1939 to attend the newly opened Bakersfield College where she met Bruce Stickler the first week of school and he decided right there and then that she was the girl for him. After graduation from Bakersfield College, Jean went on to UCLA and Bruce USC. Bruce and Jean married on October 10, 1942 and had four children, Gerald, Craig, Janet and Brent. Jean was a homemaker and community volunteer through most of her life. She loves being a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader and went on to become President of Joshua Tree Council. She was active in the Bakersfield Womens Club, PEO and many other organizations. She was very active in her church-First Congregational Church. Jean loved playing the piano where she played for the Women's Club, Alzheimer's Group, Columbus Estates and other organizations. Jean was an excellent bridge player and always looked forward to being with her bridge playing friends. Jean loved being with her family and would always support her husband in his activities. She was a huge support in her children and grandchildrens' activities. She attended almost all of their various school and sporting activities. She loved being at the Lake Tahoe cabin with her grandchildren and teaching them a new card game. She was a loving sister, wife, mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Jean is survived by brothers Orrin Kettelman (Dorothy) and Theron Robert Kettleman (Jeannie), both of Lodi, CA; children Gerald Stickler, Craig Stickler (Nancy), Janet de la Motte (Mel), and Brent Stickler (Sande); 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. Her family appreciated the loving care that was given to Jean at Evergreen Healthcare Facility and for the kind services provided by Hoffman Hospice. Mom will be greatly missed by her family and anyone who had the privilege to know this kind and considerate lady. Visitation is Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Monday, August 19, 2013 at 10:00 a.m.
