Edgar Ridgeway, a lifelong resident of Bakersfield, California passed away from a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He graduated from Kern County High School in 1950 and then married his devoted wife of 60 years, Beverly Ridgeway. He worked at Chevron Oil and retired after 38 years of service. Ed enjoyed his friendships with the Petroleum Production Pioneers, Chevron Retirees San Joaquin Valley Chapter, The American Legion, the 24 Hour Fitness, Tuesday morning Breakfast Club and the R.O.D.E.O. Club. He was especially fond of his Spear Creek family cabin and his friendships with the cabin owners, serving as President of the Cabin Owner's Association for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly Buxton Ridgeway; father Robert Ridgeway; mother, Mary Ridgeway and brother Ronald Ridgeway. He is survived by his daughters Debra Ridgeway Gerton (Michael) of San Leandro, CA. and Barbara Saffle(Rick) of Broken Arrow, OK., his grandchildren, Aaron Saffle (Brandi Marcoe) of San Diego, CA., Robert Saffle (Lela) of Chicago, IL., Michael Gerton Jr. (Alexandra) of Castro Valley, CA., Brian Gerton (Riona) of Sonora, CA., Kirk Saffle (Kate) of Oklahoma City, OK., and Captain Rebecca Sullivan (Captain David) of USAF; his great-grandchildren, Alicia Reaves, Lilyana Gerton, Cadence Rees, Vivienne Saffle, Charlotte Saffle, and Delilah Gerton, and his brother, Dale Ridgeway (Lorraine) of San Luis Obispo, CA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins as well as many friends, all of whom he loved very much.
The family expresses their appreciation to the doctors and staff at Kaiser, the caregivers with Palliative Care and Hoffmann Hospice who lovingly cared for Ed.
Ed was a fun loving, caring, thoughtful, generous, kind and devoted husband and friend. He was an entertaining and delightful host. All of his family and friends were blessed to enjoy his hospitality, humor, story telling, and jokes. He will be missed desperately.
Please gather with the family to celebrate his life at Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary on Monday, July 14th, 4:00pm to 8:00pm, for a visitiation and Tuesday, July 15th, 9:00am for chapel and graveside services.
