David Lopez Lopez

David Lopez Lopez, age 88, passed away surrounded by loved ones on Thursday, February 22, 2018. He was born August 13, 1929 in Los Angeles, California to Herlindo and Sofia (Lopez) Lopez. At the age of 14, the family relocated to Mexico. David returned to California a few years later, settling in Lamont, where he met and married Mary Sierra. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served as a Sergeant in the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from the military, David earned his high school diploma while attending night school at Arvin High. Upon completion of High School he completed Barber College and opened his own business in Lamont, known as “Dave’s Barbershop”. Dave worked for over 40 years to generations of residents, he was known for walking to and from work every day, giving summer buzz cuts and handing out the pink old fashioned bubble gum to satisfied customers. Whenever his grandchildren visited the barbershop, he always had a small snickers candy waiting for them. The grandkids also loved going to their appointments with grandpa because there was always lunch involved after, whether at Wyatt’s Cafe in the mall or a burger and milkshake on the way home. Sundays were reserved for church and family. As devoted Catholic, David rarely missed mass. The rest of the day was spent enjoying time with the family.

He is preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years, Mary, their daughter Sofia, his parents and five brothers, Filiberto, Elias, Alfredo, Roberto, and Carlos. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth, and his children Susie Lopez-Flud (Michael), David S. Lopez (Carmen), Robert S Lopez, and Sandra L De La Rosa (Alfred), 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 6th at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel in Bakersfield from 6-9, with a Rosary at 6:30pm. A funeral Mass will be held at St Augustine Church in Lamont, Ca at 10:00AM on Wed March 7th. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Bakersfield.
