Clara S Haney, age 84, was born on September 11, 1938 in Minter, Texas to Clarence William Jopes and Susie Holbert Jopes. At 4 years old, Clara moved to Kern County. She attended grammar school in Lamont and later went to high school at Arvin High School. After graduating, she spent 30 years working for one of the main AT&T business offices here in Bakersfield. At the age of 37, she married Edward “Ed” A. Haney and they shared the next 41 years together. During that time, Ed taught her to love and appreciate the NBA and although she didn’t have a favorite team, she did have favorite players. Clara and Ed also shared a mutual love of Hawaii and they would go out to their timeshare as often as they could. After Ed’s passing, Clara’s favorite niece, Kathy Tidwell, took over the Hawaii trips with her and also fed into her shopping addiction. Anyone who’s seen Clara’s closet can confirm how much she enjoyed shoe shopping. Clara went to be with the lord on October 29, 2022 in Bakersfield, CA. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Clara touched many lives and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years Edward “Ed” A. Haney, her father Clarence William Jopes, and her mother Susie Holbert Jopes. Clara is survived by her son, Kevin Haley; her daughters Rochelle Castro, Tracy McDaniel and husband Jay, and Jana Haley-DeLeasa and husband John, and her favorite niece, Kathy Tidwell. She also leaves behind six granchildren, Crissy, Hunter and wife Justina, Mallory and husband Kevin, Morgan and husband Jonathan, Madison, and Mikeala, as well as eight great-grandchildren; Sienna, Sloane, Bear, Jimmy, Wyatt, Jackson, Mila, and Eli.
A graveside service for Clara will be held Thursday, November 17, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, 9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306.
