Winifred Mobley Tichenor “Tish” Hall, 96, passed away on April 29, 2024. She was born on October 23, 1927 in Dallas, Texas to Winnie Louise Mobley and James Edwin Tichenor. She grew up in Cisco, where her grandfather, Henry Mobley, built the Mobley Hotel in 1916, which was subsequently purchased by Conrad Hilton as his first hotel. Cisco was her hometown except for several years when the family lived in Austin, at which time Tish was introduced to UT football and sitting in the knot hole section for 25 cents. She attended Stephen F. Austin High School and was a member of Red Jackets and made lifelong friends. Tish returned to west Texas for her senior year at Cisco High School. Following graduation, she celebrated by taking flying lessons and received her pilot’s license. Her first solo flight was from Ranger to Cisco.
Tish was a proud alumna of The University of Texas, where she studied history and joined the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, an association she cherished throughout her life. After graduating, she worked as a geological draftsman at Stanolin Oil & Gas Company in Fort Worth. It was here that Tish met the love of her life, Frank Edward Hall. The couple wed on June 30, 1951, at University Christian Church in Fort Worth.
Frank’s career with Swift & Co. took them from Fort Worth to San Antonio and eventually across the ocean to London, England in 1955, where they spent 15 memorable years. Tish embraced English life fully, raising their family, playing at Chipstead Golf Club, bowling (receiving many trophies for perfect games), playing bridge, helping organize a Texas Exes Club in London, making friends and exploring Europe.
In 1970, longing for their Texas roots, Tish and Frank returned to the U.S. and purchased Lone Star Meats Ltd. Back home, Tish immersed herself in community service. She was actively involved with the Zeta Tau Alpha alumni, Helping Hand Home Society, The Women’s Symphony League of Austin, Dance Club, The Settlement Club, Grandparent’s Trust of Dell Children's Foundation, Headliners Club and Longhorn Foundation. Tish was particularly passionate about sports, holding season tickets for UT sports since 1972, and was honored for her longtime support at a 2017 baseball game. Tish took up tennis in the mid 1970’s, becoming a regular on the Westwood Country Club courts, and was the doubles champion for several years. Tish and Frank also played with friends at the annual Mason Tennis Association Invitational.
Tish is predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank, and her brother Harry Gray and his wife Molly. She is survived by her son Franklin and wife Laurie; daughter Tracey Hime and husband David; grandchildren Marjorie Hall Quina and husband Tripp, Franklin Edward Hall, Jr and wife Lindsay, Courtney Hall Ferguson and husband Brian, Ainsley Hall Curry and husband Dustin, Whitney Hall Wehmeyer and husband Sam; and great-grandchildren Lauren, Byers, Sarah, Franklin III, James, Oliver, and Wyatt.
Tish's passing is a great loss to all who knew her. Her spirit of generosity and joy will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Helping Hand Home for Children or The Settlement Home for Children.
A memorial service in celebration of Tish's life will be held May 10, 2024 at 10:30 am at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home at 5416 Parkcrest Drive, Austin, TX 78731.
