Virginia K. Evans

Virginia K. Evans passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas on the morning of October 4th at the age of 94. She was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on November 15, 1915; but she got to Texas as quick as she could. This very special lady and her husband, J. C. “Jake” Evans, moved to Austin when they married in 1936. Virginia Evans will be remembered as a loving mother dedicated to her family. She will also be remembered for her dedication to the Primary Sunday School program at First Baptist Church during the 1950’s and was blessed in many ways by her 47-year membership at Highland Park Baptist Church, Austin that began in 1963. Her desire to serve others was further evidenced in her service to the Seton Hospital Auxiliary, both as a volunteer and serving as a two term President of the organization. She and Jake were most honored to have the Austin-Travis County Livestock Show and Rodeo dedicated to them in 1983. Along with her husband, Virginia Evans had an integral part in the formation of J. C. Evans Construction Company in 1946 and possessed a unique insight into the operations that contributed greatly to the success of the organization. Virginia retired from the company in 1990 as Vice- President and Treasurer at the time it was sold to the employees. She loved the outdoors and was Jake’s companion on many hunting and fishing trips across Texas, Mexico and Colorado. Nanaw, as she was known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, will be most remembered as a Christian and advocate for her family. Faith and family were her first priority throughout her life. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, J. C. Evans, and is survived by daughters Frances Blank and husband Marty, Joella Waters and husband Herman, and her sons Jay C. Evans and wife Lynn, and Jimmy D. Evans and wife Gretchen. Grandchildren include Carrie Donnellan, Craig Winn, Brad Waters and wife Kimberlee, Danny Waters, Jed Evans and wife Jamie, Jamie Baldwin and husband Dennis, Webb Evans, and Troup Evans. She was blessed with six great grandchildren, Alec and Evan Donnellan, Sidney Cooper, Shelby Waters, and Ella and Zadie Baldwin. The Family wishes to express appreciation to the Plaza at Querencia--particularly to the entire staff of the Skilled Nursing Unit and to Health Care Odyssey. Special appreciation is offered to Angie Bedford, her special friend and caregiver. A memorial service honoring & celebrating Virginia’s life will be held at Highland Park Baptist Church, 5206 Balcones Drive, Austin, Texas 78731 on Friday October 8th at 11:30 AM with a reception to follow at the church. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.
