Valentino Luna was born in Austin, Texas on February 14, 1930. He has joined our Lord and his wife Dora. He passed away with family by his side on January 26, 2008. He held the titles of "Austin Golden Gloves Champion", "Texas Golden Glove State Champiton", "Texas TAAF Champ", and "National Golden Gloves runner-up", and later became a professional boxer. He was voted "Best Boxer to come out of Austin" by his peers in 1983. He was an avid Longhorn, Cowboy and Spurs' fan. Val was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was loved and respected by his family and friends. Val was preceded in death by his parents Eulogio & Salud Luna; wife Aurora "Dora" Luna; brothers, Eulogio V. Luna Jr., Alfredo M. Luna, Jesse M. Luna. Val is survived by his four children, daughter, Sylvia Van Vlerah (James); sons, Valentino P. Luna Jr. (Elvia), Mario Luna (Amy), Michael Luna (Deanne), 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sisters, Lupe Barba, Sally Arredondo, Mary L. Vasquez, and Phyllis Zapata all of Austin, Frances Zamarripa of California; brother, Joe M. Luna. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 pm Tuesday, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers include Eric Luna, Derek Luna, Michael Bret Luna, Christopher Luna, Bryan Van Vlerah and Ashley Luna.
