He was born to Augustine and Guadalupe Cuellar in Lawton, Oklahoma. He graduated from LBJ High School in Austin, Texas and received his Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. He is survived by his four children, a granddaughter, many family members, neighbors, and friends.
He loved to hike local nature trails where he always chose the less beaten path and sought adventure in climbing up to any cave or vantage point. He was an avid, strong, lifelong runner who found great joy in passing on the love of running to his daughters who will undoubtedly carry his stories and lessons in their miles to come. He loved to bake pies, but they tasted even better on the occasions he would show up with all of the ingredients ready to teach and take over someone’s kitchen. He proudly rose to the challenge of learning to cook new dishes and cuisines but was a master of grilling and boiling crawfish.
He was a self-taught ukulele player and percussionist and could be found in the center of the drum circle at Eeyore’s Birthday Party, poolside or on his vibrant patio banging on his bongo drum. He loved to dance and never left the dance floor at any of the country dancehalls he frequented. His dance partners remember him best for the light in his eyes and how excited he would yell, “this is a good one!” just before he spun you when a song he loved came on. He was a man of many interests, pranks, and talents, but what he enjoyed most was sharing them with those he loved.
His greatest loves were his children. Nothing made him stronger, prouder or more whole. He was a devoted loving father who instilled lessons of hard work, integrity, and living life to the fullest.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.cookwaldenforestoaks.com for the Cuellar family.
