Thomas Bertrand Witt, 78, of Austin passed away on Friday, April 15, 2005. He was born in Fairland, Texas, December 27, 1926 to Bertrand and Kate Witt. Tom was a graduate of Austin High School, Class of 42, served 2 years in the U.S. Navy, and was a longtime member of the Optimist Club. Tom was a loving father and grandfather and was very active in his childrens and grandchildrens lives. He loved nothing more than getting in the car and traveling all around Central and North Texas to attend one of his childrens athletic events. He also had a love for making sure everybody had plenty of barbeque to eat. Whether it was opening day at Little League or a penniless person walking into one his restaurants, he was determined to make sure you had a stomach full of good eats from his open-flame-barbeque pit that he had fired up at 5 am that morning. He is survived by his ex-wife, Mary Witt and children, Steve Witt, Mamie Witt, Mike Witt and Kevin Witt and his grandchildren, Brad, Stephanie, Christine, Cody and Tyler. His sister, Mary Louise Young and an infant son, David James Witt preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21st at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home with Monsignor Richard E. McCabe officiating. Memorials and guestbook online at wcfish.com
