Susan Mae Morgan née Sather, age 74, passed away in her home in Austin on Monday, March 1st. She was predeceased by her wife, F. Ethelynn Beebe, and her parents Charles and Alma Sather. She is survived by her sister, Lual Leistiko, her daughter, Katharine Morgan, her son, Michael Morgan, and her grandchildren, Kai and Kiera Toney.
Susan was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and had a long career as a civil servant working from an E-3 electronics technician to a GS-14 logistics manager for the T-45 and T-6 aircraft until her retirement. Susan was the first woman to cross the Atlantic Ocean on an aircraft carrier, the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1974. Susan enjoyed sailing, traveling, renovating rental properties, and spending time with her friends and family. Susan and Ethelynn were active members of the LGBTQ community in Austin.
The family have decided not to have a funeral service at this time. One-on-one visitation will be held on Sunday, March 7th, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home at 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. A Celebration of Susan’s life is planned for her birthday in September.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance or the Human Rights Campaign of Austin.
