Sarah Elizabeth Klassen, age 87, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2012, in Round Rock, Texas. Sarah was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 5, 1925, to James Leroy Thomason, Sr., and Katherine Laura (Hipwell) Thomason.
She graduated from Forest Avenue High school in 1942, and went on to attend the University of Texas in Austin. Sarah received a work scholarship to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, and worked as a draftswoman of aircraft components at Curtiss-Wright Corporation during WWII. On September 22, 1945, she married Albert Harvey Klassen, Jr., in Dallas, Texas. Sarah was a champion bowler, winning many titles and trophies; an avid fisherwoman; an excellent poker player; and a skilled slalom water-skier. She also excelled in mathematics and later worked as a bookkeeper for Hewlett Packard Corporation, until she retired in 1983. After spending most of their adult lives in Dallas, Sarah and Albert moved to Austin, Texas, in 1984 to enjoy their retirement years closer to their children and grandchildren. During her lifetime, Sarah was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be sorely missed.
Sarah is predeceased by her parents; her two brothers, James Leroy, Jr., and Robert Thomason; and her husband of 60 years, Albert Klassen. She is survived by her son, Robert Wayne Klassen and his wife Alison Klassen; daughter, Katherine Klassen Stalzer and her husband Dennis Stalzer; daughter, Linda Klassen Kuehl and her husband Stuart Kuehl; and four grandchildren: Kathleen Nicole Klassen, Robert Michael Klassen, Christopher Klassen Kuehl, and Nicholas Klassen Kuehl, all of Austin, Texas.
The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, September 2, 2012, from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 3, 2012, at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
