Sammye Riley Cook

Sammye passed away on July 24, 2006 at the age of 89. She was born in Austin on January 26, 1917 to Samuel and Elsie LaGrone. She was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School and was a life-long Austin resident. She is survived by one son, Richard A. Riley and daughter-in-law Joanne of Austin, Texas; two grandsons, Richard J. Riley and wife Michelle of San Francisco, California and Russell A. Riley and wife Elisabeth of Austin, Texas; and two great grandchildren, Alexandra and Michael Riley of San Francisco, California. She was preceded in death by her husbands Richard M. Riley and J. Vernon Cook. A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, July 28, 2006 at Oakwood Cemetery. The service will be officiated by our family’s special friend - Dr. Ron Campbell of Tarrytown United Methodist Church. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Ms. Donna Epperson for her constant and loving care which enabled Sammye to remain at home for several years. We are also deeply grateful to the staff of the Summit at Northwest Hills for the care given to our mother during the last months of her life.
