Rudy was very talented. He loved music and played the guitar, piano, harmonica and accordion. He was also known for his great cooking. He worked as a cook for over 70 years. Retired in 1985 from Hill's Café, known for his chicken fried steaks and pancakes. Rudy's family and friends loved his thanksgiving dressing and pumpkin pies. Rudy's favorite pass time was spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro and Julia Hernandez; brothers, Alex Hernandez, Gerardo Hernandez; sister, Rose Gonzales.
Rudy is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Rachel Lafunete Hernandez; sons, Rudy Hernandez Jr. and wife Mary, Alfredo Hernandez and wife Suzanne; daughters, Mary Alice Arizmendez and husband John, Cynthia Avila, Debbie Polanco and husband George; two granddaughters; six grandsons; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Eric Hernandez, Jason Hernandez, Julian Duran, Jorge Polanco, Rene Polanco, Sammy Avila; honorary pallbearer, Michael Lafuente.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery.
