Rosemary L. Moore

Rosemary Leona Ernst Moore was born on the 21st of March 1928 in New Orleans on a beautiful, sunny day. She passed into the loving arms of the Lord on the 27th of December 2011 at home peacefully with her family by her side. Growing up in a home with her grandparents was very special. Her Irish mother influenced her the most, teaching her everything she needed to know about being a good Catholic child. She attended Ursuline Academy in New Orleans graduating as Valedictorian of 1945 and went on to finish Soule’ Business College. She held many secretarial positions during WWII. She and her friends enjoyed going to the USO, dancing with servicemen and met her husband, Jack, at one of the dances. They were married for 63 years in September.

In New Orleans, she belonged to the Airline Park Women’s Club, taught CCD at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, and was very involved in bowling leagues and square-dancing. Jack and she were considered the perfect dance partners. Jack’s job moved the family often, from New Orleans to Lake Charles, to Shreveport and back to New Orleans, and eventually settling in Austin, Texas. Their home was always open and welcoming to the clergy as well as strangers that became friends.

Rosemary led a life of service as devoted mother and wife, teacher and advisor. Her volunteer hours in Austin were divided among the Altar Society, Pink Ladies, as President of the Ladies of Charity at Seton Hospital, Halfway House with Monsignor McCabe and baking birthday cakes to serve for the residents of the Austin State School.

She was lovingly called “Grandma Rose” by her family and friends. Her strong faith in God and love of family was above all else. She was a charter and active member of St. Theresa Catholic Church. Her second great love was playing cards, particularly bridge, beginning in her business school days up until her death. Other passion included her love of cooking by sharing her secrets in the kitchen with her children and her love of music by teaching her children and grandchildren to play the piano and organ.

Grandma Rose is preceded in death by her dearly loved mother, Anna Eliza Daly Ernst, her father Edward Andrew Ernst, Sr. and her brother Edward Andrew Ernst, Jr.

She is survived by her loving, faithful husband James (Jack) J. Moore, Sr., her children, Karen and Chris Hull, Fort Worth; Susan Moore-Bennett and Andrew Gallegos, Corpus Christi; Melanie and Arnold Carbary, Round Rock and James J. Moore, Jr., Austin. She leaves behind her 8 grandchildren: Danny and Jenny Pickell, Rebecca Hull, Joey and Angela Pickell, Rachel Hull, Annabelle Bennett, Patrick Hull, Christopher and Caroline Hull, and Sam Bennett. Her great-grandchildren: Faith, Jaxon, Jameson, Keegan and Fiona will miss her dearly.

The family would like to express their endless gratitude for our mother’s care to St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, Cornerstone Hospital, Emeritus Skilled Nursing Facility, and Gerling Home Health Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association , COPD Foundation or the Carmelite Nuns of Arlington, Tx.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from half-past six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, Friday, the 30th of December at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning, Saturday, the 31st of December at St. Theresa Catholic Church.
