Ron moved to Austin as a child, graduated from Austin High School, and went on to finish his education at Texas State University. After earning his degree, Ron began his teaching career in the Austin area. While working at Allan Junior High, he met and fell in love with Sharon Meachum, who was also a teacher at the school. They were married in 1969 and later blessed with two children. Ron taught and coached in Austin ISD for 35 years at multiple campuses, with the majority of his career spent at Martin Junior High and Mendez Middle School. His sports teams won city championships at every school he coached.
Ron was active in multiple community and interest groups including the Austin Jaycees, the Austin Parks Board, and the Austin Masons. He discovered a love of magic later in life and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians. Through these groups, he built lifelong friendships that he cherished dearly.
Ron was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Austin. On Sundays, he could be found participating in Sunday School and Journey Group. After church in the spring, he could often be found cheering on the Longhorn baseball team at The Disch. Ron’s love for his family, friends, church, clubs, and UT Sports was deep and everlasting.
Ron was predeceased by Sharon, his wife of 51 years, in February 2021. Ron is survived by daughter Jennifer (Mike) of Leander, son Justin (Courtney) of Austin, grandsons Benjamin and Nolan, and granddaughters Katelyn, Lydia, & Meg.
