Robert Marvin Nagle

May 13, 1928 – May 23, 2022

Robert “Bob” Marvin Nagle passed away May 23, 2022 in Biloxi, Mississippi at the age of 94. Bob was born to Herbert and Mae Belle Nagle in Austin, Texas on May 13, 1928. He was raised in Austin, attended Austin public schools, and was a lifelong University of Texas Longhorn fan.

He joined the U.S. Army in September of 1950 and operated a half-track tractor/tank in the Korean war where he was awarded a Korean Service Medal, a Bronze Service Star, a UN Service Medal, and an Occupation Medal (Japan). He was released from the U.S Army in September 1952.

Bob lived many years on Westlake Drive near Lake Austin, even in the days when Westlake Drive was a dirt road, where he thoroughly enjoyed the lake. He worked in the family-owned ceramic business for many years until his mother passed away and the business closed. He then worked for an Austin cash register company working on cash registers long before computers came along.

Bob loved flying and earned his pilot’s license at Ragsdale Aviation near the old Austin Airport where he stored his Cessna 150. He also loved taking care of his canine companions, but most of all he loved traveling. Upon retirement, he and his beloved wife Louise sold everything they owned, bought a big RV and hit the road traveling the United States and Canada. Bob was happiest on the road, especially when his grandchildren could join him on vacations he would arrange especially for them.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Louise Nagle, his parents, Herbert and Mae Belle Nagle, two brothers Albert and Bert Nagle, his sister Dorothy, his step-daughter Junie Bartmess, and great-grandson Joby Rasmussen. He is survived by step-son John B. Howdeshell and wife Doris; son-in-law Charles Robert Bartmess; five grandchildren, Chris Landis, Robert Bartmess, Terie Jones, Leida Ann Bartmess, and Lisa Howdeshell Wicks; four great-grandchildren, Josh Rasmussen, Laura Jo Luce-Wolgemuth, Caroline Louise Wilson, and Sophia Maria Wicks; and five great-great-grandchildren, Vespertine Louise Luce, Veslyn Marie Wilson, Xavier Joel Steele Wilson, and Joby and Zoe Rasmussen.

At Bob’s request, there will be no formal services, just a gravesite gathering. He will be buried at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery on Hancock Drive in Austin, Texas on June 11, 2022.
