Robert L. Ligon, Jr.
February 24, 1957 – March 24, 2022
Robert Leon Ligon, Jr., of Austin, passed away at his home with his wife by his side on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the age of 65. He was born on February 24, 1957, in Austin, to Robert Leon Ligon, Sr. and Billie Dean Ligon.
He graduated from McCallum High School in 1975 where he enjoyed playing both football and baseball. After high school he joined the United States Army. He received his basic training at Fort Lee, Virginia, and Paratrooper training in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He completed his military career in the United States Army National Guard as a Parachute Rigger.
In 1984 he started working for his father at Rapid Plans Company that his father had started in 1963. Robert purchased the business when his father retired in 2006. His father passed away shortly thereafter.
He became a Master Mason in 1988 and became was a member of Hill City Masonic Lodge #456. He joined the Scottish Rite. He later joined the York Rite Commandry.
He joined the Ben Hur Shrine in 1989 and held many positions over the years including Potentate of Ben Hur Shrine in 2006, President of the Ben Hur Patrol, President of the Texas Shrine Patrol Association, President of the National Patrol Association of North America, President of Ben Hur Capital Carboys, President of Ben Hur Motorcycle Club, Ben Hur Membership Chairman, Ben Hur Blood Drive Chairman, to name a few.
Robert had many other hobbies and interests. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and watching his grandchildren grow. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle and road with the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) every chance he got, traveling in his motorhome with his wife and his dogs, co-sponsoring a Top Alcohol Flat professional race boat, and last but certainly not least he was a University of Texas Longhorn fan through and through. There was never a dull moment. He always had new and exciting ideas.
Robert is survived by his wife of 30 years, Laura Ligon of Austin, three daughters, Tiffany Combs and husband Cody of Georgetown, Brittany Ligon of Austin, and Lindsay Medina and husband Raymond of Hutto. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Calissa, Blaze, Cierra, DaLynn, Brock, Anilyn, Jayden, Robert, Oliver, Rylie, and Emilea, 6 nieces and nephews, and countless other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Billie Dean Friesen and husband Whitey of San Antonio, Robert L. Ligon, Sr. and wife Margie of Liberty Hill, and his sister Sheri Shindler of Blessing.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 PM with services to be held Thursday, March 30, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Cook-Walden 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin TX 78752.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or to the National Shriners Association.
