Robert “Bob” Charles Bradley, 82, of Indian Lake, NY, passed away on August 24, 2023, in Austin, TX. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Donna Bradley, his sisters, Virginia Bradley and Nancy Allen, sons, Daniel and Adam Bradley, daughter-in-law, Alice Daley, and cherished grandchildren, Winslow Mia Bradley and Jack Blaze Bradley.
Bob hailed from Brooklyn, NY, born to the late Charles and Alice Bradley (nee Fairchild). He was an alumnus of Fort Hamilton High School and later earned his Bachelor of Business Administration, focusing on Accounting and Finance, from Pace University, New York City.
Bob’s Brooklyn youth was marked with adventures, from solo subway rides to Sheepshead Bay for early morning fishing trips to befriending a tame pigeon, “Ferry”, during a journey on the Staten Island Ferry.
In 1959, Bob dutifully served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge two years later, he embarked on a prosperous banking career with Chase Manhattan Bank. His father, Charlie, had once told him that with hard work, he could rise to the pinnacle. True to that advice, Bob’s exceptional observation skills and his innate knack for judging character made him unparalleled in commercial lending. Notably, during his tenure, not one customer account defaulted under his management. Bob's remarkable commitment to Chase saw him commute daily to Manhattan, never missing a day, even braving blizzards on foot to catch his train. His dedication culminated in him being promoted to Vice President, his pinnacle, and later retiring after 35 years of service.
1968 marked a significant turn in Bob's life when he met his soulmate, Donna Jeanne Mundwiler, at a Manhattan party. Their whirlwind romance led to their wedding just seven months later. Their honeymoon saw them summit Mt. Marcy, New York's highest peak, setting the tone for a 54-year union filled with shared adventures across North America and Europe.
The couple settled in Chatham, NJ, in 1973, where they raised their sons, Daniel and Adam.
Bob's fervent love for the outdoors was infectious. Fishing, hiking, camping, swimming – he embraced it all. He ensured his sons inherited this passion, guiding them in the Boy Scouts, Dan to the rank of Eagle and Adam on many campouts, and being the pillar of the community as Boy Scout Troop 8 Scoutmaster.
In 2003, the couple's love for nature drew them to retirement in the Adirondacks at Indian Lake, NY. Bob's lifelong fascination with wildlife was ever present, from marveling at insects to capturing breathtaking photos of wild animals crossing their property. His indomitable spirit once saw him drive a black bear out of his garage with just the power of his voice. Bob's love for nature and adventure will remain a cherished memory for all who knew him.
Bob was an ardent Catholic and attended service, sang in the choir and volunteered for many councils and events at both the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Chatham, NJ and St Mary's Church in Indian Lake.
His presence was magnetic – a blend of strength and warmth. Bob’s infectious smile and the twinkle in his eye remained with him till his final days at the Westminster Manor in Austin, TX.
The Bradley family expresses their heartfelt gratitude to Sharon Goss, Nurse Navigator, the diligent staff at Westminster Manor, Rev. Fr. Puccini of St. Austin Church, and Hospice of Austin for their unwavering care and companionship.
Join us to celebrate Bob's life at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Cemetery, 6300 W William Cannon Dr., Austin, TX, on September 4, 2023, at 10 am.
