Dr. Baum is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his son Neil and daughter-in-law Monica of North Huntingdon, PA; his son Steven, daughter-in-law Mina, and grandchildren Jeffrey and Kimberly of Shrewsbury, MA; and his daughter Joanna Bitner, son-in-law Bruce and grandchildren Nolan, Eric, and Claire, of Cedar Park, TX.
Dr. Baum was born in Bronx, NY, attended Cornell University (B.S.) and the University of Illinois (PhD), and completed post-doctoral studies at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN.
As a Professor of Microbiology at Temple University Medical School in Philadelphia, PA, Dr. Baum enjoyed a long career teaching microbiology to a generation of Medical, Dental and Pharmacy students. In addition to teaching, Dr. Baum was a published expert in germ transmission pathways in dentistry and conducted research into the causes of cancer.
For many years, Dr. Baum was an enthusiastic and dedicated member of the Congregation Adath Jeshurun Choir in Elkins Park, PA.
He was a loving husband and father, a beloved member of the community, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at Cedar Park Cemetery in Cedar Park, Texas.
