Phil was born on February 11, 1948, in Ridgewood, New York, the son of John and Anna (Palko) Schumacher. Phil grew up in Muscatine, Iowa where he was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Hayes Catholic High School. On December 27, 1969, Phil married his high school sweetheart, Marie Frances Shoultz.
Phil worked as an internal bank auditor and compliance officer for Northwest Bank and Trust Company, Davenport, Iowa, and Modern Woodman Bank of America, Rock Island, Illinois. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from St. Ambrose University, Davenport, Iowa. While living in the Quad Cities, Phil was active in the Iowa Quad City Rotary Club, Davenport Country Club, Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce, and St. John Vianney Church, where he was a parishioner and lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 2014, Phil hung up his suit and tie for golf shoes and shorts, and retired to Spicewood, to be close to his son, Andrew, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren. Phil spent his retirement playing golf, attending numerous grandchild sporting and school events, and making new friends in the Austin area. Phil looked forward to fall in Iowa attending and tailgating at University of Iowa (Hawkeye) football games. Once in Texas, he switched from Iowa tailgates to accompanying Andrew and his grandsons to University of Texas (Longhorn) football games, including several trips to the Cotton Bowl for the Texas/Oklahoma rivalry. Phil was also a devoted member of Emmaus-Queen of Angels Chapel in Spicewood.
Phil will be greatly missed by those left to honor his memory, including his beloved wife, Marie, of 54 years, son Andrew Schumacher (Courtney) of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Charlie, Henry, and Katherine Schumacher; sisters, Anne Dalton (Robert) of Davenport, Iowa; Clare Snyder of Brandon, Florida; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis Schumacher, Grandview, Iowa and Angela Dearking (Dean) Bettendorf, Iowa; eight nieces and three nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John S. Schumacher, and brother-in-law, Lowell Snyder.
