Peggy Overton Neighbors

Peggy Overton Neighbors was set free December 20, 2004. Her life was full and savored much. With good friends, good times, and an adoring family, she left this world complete. She was born January 1, 1924 in Cleveland, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert C. Overton and husband, Dr. Allan Neighbors. Peggy is lovingly surrounded by her daughter, Tula Neighbors McCormick and granddaughter Molly of Austin; her son, Allan H. Neighbors III and wife Nancy of Wimberley; grandson, Allan Neighbors IV and wife Whitney of Houston; granddaughter, Alison Neighbors of Midland; and great-granddaughter Adison Neighbors. Peggy was a true and humble servant of the Lord. She believed that her time was precious and was to be given to others. She was past president of the Travis County Medical Auxiliary, board member of the Austin Ballet Society, member of the Junior Helping Hand, and in 1949, helped to develop the Cerebral Palsy Center of Austin. Peggy attended the University of Texas where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and was chosen as the University’s Varsity Carnival Queen. Her other memberships include the American Association of University Women, the Symphony League and the World Council of Churches. She was a Boy Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, worked with the Parent Teachers Association, and was chosen “Mother of the Year” in 1951. A dramatic fashion designer for women, Peggy partnered with Jean Ready under the name of O’Fonde in the 1970’s. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to all the staff at Brackenridge Hospital for their care and love shown to our mother and to the friends and neighbors for their loving care and support during this difficult time. The family will be receiving friends Wednesday evening, December 22nd from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Hill Park Cemetery, Howard Lane and IH-35, in Pflugerville.
