Nash was born to Dr. H.A. Phillips and Annette Elizabeth Schmidt at Ft. Bliss, Texas on November 28, 1920. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Phillips Horne, her husband Ed Horne, and (his sunlight) grandson Nash Horne. He is survived by two granddaughters, Kathleen and Rosemary Sharp, and Mary Ward. He is also survived by a large extended family and an even larger NPC family. Nash was greeted in Heaven by his wife Eloise Kauffman and daughter Kathleen Sharp.
Nash was a veteran of WW II, being a 2nd lieutenant in the US Navy in Fleet Air Wing 12 in the North Atlantic. He graduated from the University of Texas and was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. In 1946 he founded Nash Phillips Copus Company building homes in Texas, Arizona, and Colorado. He was also a founder of Wilshire Homes in 1991 that builds homes in both Austin and San Antonio. His impact on the housing industry was significant. He touched the lives of so many people through out the United States. During his career he built over 80,000 homes. NPC was named “Builder of the Year” in 1984, and was inducted into the Texas Housing Hall of Honor in 2009. It was Nash’s deep love of people that gave him his smile and the twinkle in his eye.
A family burial will be held at the Liberty Hill Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, February 14th at 2:00 pm at the “Phillips Event Center” at 8140 Exchange Drive in Austin, Texas. Please come share your favorite Nash Phillips story.
