Emalyn attended Abilene Christian University as a Home Economics major and worked briefly; but remained a homemaker for most of her life. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, oil-painting, and later in life her writing club "Writers of the Purple Page". She and Earl raised 5 children, and were active church members, giving hospitality, and receiving the benefits of a vibrant, loving church family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Earl Mitchell, and a son Terry Mitchell. She is survived by her daughter, Jan, of Teague, and three sons David Mitchell of Salado, Dale Mitchell of Waco, and Philip Mitchell of Round Rock. She has 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Her unusual life story is recorded in the Library of Congress.
A family visitation will held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar, Tuesday, June 18th from 11 to 1. A light lunch will be available.
Services will be held at the Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ, Wednesday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. located at 11908 N Lamar Blvd. Austin, TX 78753, (512) 835-5980.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Austin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Brentwood Christian School or Eastern European Missions.
