Milton Otto Behrens, of Sunset Valley, Texas passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 4, 2023, at the age of 105. Born in Giddings, TX to Emil Carl Behrens (1880-1973) and Amelia Dunk Behrens (1884-1960) on Friday, May 10, 1918. He graduated from Giddings High School in 1938 and shortly after joined the Army Military on February 27, 1941, as a Pvt. Milton was a WWII veteran and received many promotions like Sgt. and M/Sgt.
His education within the Army included Field Wire Chief, Company C 50" Signal Bn., and Sharpshooter Rifle. He fought in, Campaigns Normandy, Northern France, Belgium, Rhineland, and the Battle of the Bulge Central Europe. In 1945, he was honorably discharged and decorated with Citations EAME Campaign Medal with three Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and Bronze Star Medal GO 27 Haq VII Corps April 18, 1945.
After returning home in 1945, he went to work with Southwestern Bell as a lineman and retired after 35 years. Married his loving wife, Laray Marburger in 1950 for 68 years and had two daughters Elva and Sherral. He purchased their house in Sunset Valley, TX where they lived for 68 years as well. With their many years in Sunset Valley, Milton was awarded for his long tenure, as a resident, with MILTON BEHRENS DAY every May 10 in Sunset Valley.
After retiring from SWB, he loved to go deer hunting and fishing at the family farm in Paige, TX where he grew up. Every year he would take a trip to Rockport for some saltwater fishing. Always staying at either The Surf Courts Motel or The Rod & Reel, and always a trip on the Mary Lou. His grandparents, Johann Heinrich Behrens (1832-1914) and his wife Wilhelmine Marie Froehner (1844¬1919) purchased the farm in 1873, where the farm remains today for all his family to enjoy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laray Ann Marburger Behrens of Hallettsville, TX (1924-2018) two brothers, Conrad Emil Behrens (1915-1991) and Willard Albert Behrens (1920-2015). One sister, Angeline Behrens Feuerbacher (1908-2013).
He is survived by two daughters, Elva Jo Opiela, and her husband Leroy, and Sherral Ann Coe, and her husband Randy; five grandchildren Scott Opiela, Mark Opiela, Heather Opiela, Brian Coe, and Justin Coe; and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Milton will be held Monday, June 12, 2023 from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749. A funeral service will occur Monday, June 12, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749. A graveside service will occur Monday, June 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park, 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749.
