James Michael Lundgren was born on May 6, 1958, in the “New” St. David’s Hospital to Paul and Shirley Lundgren and big sister Paula. He attended Highland Park Elementary School, Murchison Jr. High, Anderson High School, and Texas Lutheran University. He received his BA from the McCombs School of Business at UT Austin. Mike was a beloved and faithful member of Gateway Baptist Church. He had a strong faith in Jesus and responded to the call to serve others with his natural handyman gifts. He fixed apartments of church members at no cost, helped his mom manage property rentals and was quick to say “I’ll be right there” whenever someone needed help.
Mike loved Austin! He was a wonderful impromptu tour guide, a human GPS, and loved to travel. He was even baptized in Israel in the Jordan River. One of his favorite memories was his mission trip to Mexico where he fell in love with the culture, the cuisine, and the language.
Mike’s passion was fly fishing with his friend Bret Harvoth and hunting with Jeff Bible and his brother- in- law Don Henderson on land owned by his great grandfather, Oscar Lundgren, a Swedish immigrant of New Sweden, Texas.
Mike had a gentle spirit and a dry wit. He had too many friends to name but many came by to see him during his short battle with cancer and a stroke. Mike died on May 31st at the age of 64.
He leaves behind a legacy of humor, love, and kindness. Those left to mourn are his Mother Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Lundgren, Sister and Brother- in- law Paula and Don Henderson, God children Bethany McCrum and Jacob McCrum, Gail and Tiny Etheredge, the Lundgrens, The Millers, RaeDean Popelka and family, and the Redden family.
Pallbearers are Bob Lauck, Jacob McCrum, Tommy Miller, Stephen Redden, Wayne Weirick, and Charlie Zinsmeyer.
