Michael David Crockett, age 65, died on September 19, 2016, in Austin, Texas. He was born on March 3, 1951 in San Angelo, Texas to Velma and Walter Crockett. Mike was raised in Midland, Texas where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1969. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1973. Mike was a member of the Silver Spurs and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where many of his most cherished, lifelong friendships began.
Mike met his wife of 42 years, Debbie, in Midland where they were high school sweethearts. They married in Midland in 1974 and they raised their three children in Austin, Texas. For over 30 years Mike was the Senior Vice President and Operating Partner for Lincoln Property Company’s Austin office. Mike and Debbie were members of First Evangelical Free Church of Austin for 19 years and Austin Ridge Bible Church, for the last 5 years.
Mike will always be remembered as a man of great faith and a true gentleman. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ and desired to live a life of surrender to Him. Mike served with great joy as an elder at First Evangelical Free Church, and served as the Associate National Director of Student Community Bible Study. It was in CBS that God knit Mike’s heart together with dear friends as they studied the Word and shepherded each other. One of the greatest privileges of his life was sharing his faith one-on-one in Cuba this past March, where he fell in love with the Cuban people.
Although Mike was a man of few words, the words he said mattered. He was humble to a fault, lived with integrity, and put other people first. Mike was a true servant.
Mike found joy in the simple things; a Friday afternoon on the golf course with his friends, a late fall sunset on the porch at his lake house, a golf cart ride full of his grand kids, one-on-one “Bogey time” on the porch, a quiet puzzle with his children and their spouses, and an evening at home with his wife, Debbie. And he loved his Texas Longhorns.
Mike is survived by his wife Debbie Girdley Crockett; son Bo Crockett and his wife Brooke of Austin; daughter Christian Srp and her husband Mike of Boerne; his daughter MC Martin and her husband Joe of Houston; his sister Sue Beth Alvis and her husband Jim of Austin; his sister-in-law Beverly Keeton of Austin; his brother-in-law Bill Girdley of Keller; and his beloved golden retriever, Major. Mike and Debbie are blessed with eight precious grandchildren Cal, Amelia, and Evelyn Crockett, Crockett and Mary Michael Srp and Sadie Bray, Sawyer and Birdie Martin.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Velma and Walter Crockett.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Austin Ridge Bible Church Building D, 9300 Bee Cave Road, Austin, Texas 78735.
