Mary was preceded in death by her cousin John Michael Hammack and her paternal grandmother Stella Helweg Ressman.
She is survived by her parents Christopher and Laurie Grayson; brother Jonathan Grayson; maternal grandparents John and Cathy Hammack; uncles Michael Grayson and wife Marcie, Andrew Grayson and wife Patti, Michael Hammack and wife Renee; and aunt Sarah Smith and husband Lee; cousins Matthew and Christopher Grayson (Amber), Kathryn Grayson Nanz (Jason), Megan Grayson, Jacob Hammack, Noelle Bruinings and Elissa Smith.
She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Studio Art from the University of North Texas, graduating cum laude.
Mary was a sweet girl and a light to those around her. She made deep friendships wherever she went, and found joy in whatever work she did. From toddlerhood, she has had strong opinions and a keen sense of humor, neither of which she kept to herself. She loved her family, and always looked up to her big brother, who she adored even if at times it may not have shown. School trips to Paris and later, Germany and Austria, sparked her love of travel, as did working in Yellowstone after graduation last year.
Her loves included video games – especially playing and sharing them with other people – graphic novels, anime, and collectibles like Pokémon; some of her favorite treats were Torchy’s tacos, Korean barbecue, and boba tea. Mary couldn’t tolerate unkindness, injustice, or gluten. Her artistic interests continually grew and evolved, from drawing and painting, to tattoos, ceramics, bookmaking, zines, and digital art. Her artist’s eyes saw the world differently, and we were so lucky to have her share her vision with us. We will miss her more than words can begin to say.
