Mary Jo Froelich was known as many things to many people. She was outgoing and loved spending time with people, but she also valued quiet times and one-on-one interactions. Mary was one who relied on common sense and concrete information, but she was always accepting of new theories. She had the ability to intuitively seek new insights for future possibilities.
She was the daughter of Henry and Josefina Froelich. Mary grew up in Guatemala, Newfoundland, Puerto Rico, and Texas.
Mary Jo was raised with seven siblings. She had a twin sister, Elizabeth and her younger siblings were: John, Henry, Alicia, Carl, Susan, and Anthony. Mary Jo was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
As a young girl, Mary Jo had a number of interests. Like most children, she enjoyed playing and making up games. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. She enjoyed coloring and making snowmen. Mary Jo's memorable achievements as a child included 1st prizes in spelling bees and winning a painting contest in the 4th grade. However, to Mary Jo, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with her friends.
A typical teenager, Mary Jo had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She graduated from Crockett High School in Austin, Texas in 1973. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers. Her favorite class in high school was Spanish literature. The teacher she enjoyed learning from the most was Ms. Aidy. A memorable moment for her was the day she streaked through the beauty review.
Always considered a “good” friend to those she knew, Mary Jo enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. While growing up, some of her best friends were Dolly and Darla Buchannan, Maria and Virginia Perales, and Ruth Ivemy. Later in life she grew close to Laura and Hermin Perez and Connie Pace.
On November 20, 1982 Mary exchanged wedding vows with George Rodriguez at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church of Austin, Texas. Empathic and loyal, Mary Jo was committed to making her new family happy.
Mary Jo was blessed with one child, a daughter she named Elizabeth. Mary Jo worked hard to be a good mother to her child and she did her best to fulfill her needs. Elizabeth blessed her mom with one grandson, Luke.
Fortunately, Mary Jo enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Mary worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was Director's Assistant at Texas Rebabilitation Commission. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, she was employed for 12 years by Texas Rehabilitation Commission. Later in life she worked as a blackjack and craps dealer for Casino Knights. Mary Jo always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Mary Jo enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite hobbies as an adult included doing crossword puzzles, reading, travel, and word games. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.
Mary Jo was a woman who took pride in upholding her beliefs. So it is little wonder that she took an active role in her community, Mary Jo was involved in church activities such as Perpetual Adoration.
Mary Jo’s faith was important to her. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. During that time, she devoted much time to Perpetual Adoration.
Mary Jo enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Tuscany, Donegal, Ireland, Spain, and Rome.
Mary Jo was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was Mary Jo's favorite pets were a Rottweiler named Eppie, Cookie the cat, Ollie the poodle, and a cat named Goldie.
Mary Jo passed away on May 20, 2017 at Seton-Williamson Hospital in Round Rock, Texas. Mary Jo fought a brave battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Elizabeth; grandson, Luke; twin sister, Elizabeth; sisters, Susan and Alicia; and brothers, John, Henry, Carl, and Anthony. Services were held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Simply stated, Mary Jo was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Mary Jo leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Mary Jo Froelich.
