Mary C. Clark Mary C. Clark passed away Friday, August 20, 2004 at the age of 89. She was born in Des Moines, Iowa, the 5th child of Ellen & William Cavanaugh. Mary attended St. Josephs Academy, and graduated from Drake University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. In September of 1939, she married Dr. George E. Clark, Jr. They lived in Pennsylvania and Ohio as Dr. Clark completed his internship and residency at the Geisinger Clinic, and his fellowship in cardiology at the Cleveland Clinic. In 1946, after Dr. Clark returned from his service as a Captain in WWII, they moved to Austin, where Dr. Clark practiced for over 40 years. Mary & George were long-time members of St. Austins Catholic Church. Mary served as President of the Christ Child Society, which provided free medical care to those in need. Mary loved to read and discuss world history and current events. She was a sports enthusiast and loved following golf, basketball and baseball. Her amazing memory kept her children and grandchildren entertained with stories of her growing up, and life in the early days of living in Austin. Despite a lifelong affliction with arthritis, Mary was an avid gardener and fisherwoman. She was often surrounded by her many friends with whom she loved to travel, play bridge, or just visit and talk. Mary was preceded in death by Dr. Clark, her four siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Susan Harrison Clark. She is survived by her daughter, Terry of New York City, and by her four sons and their wives John and Janet Clark, Fred and Nancy Clark of Austin, Dr. Ed Clark and his wife, Mary, of Paris, Texas, and Dr. Tom Clark of Albany, Oregon, as well as her eight grandchildren, Captain Carl E. Clark of Olympia, WA, Garrett and Larissa Clark and Jim and Amy Clark, of Austin, Walker Clark of Ft. Worth, Ellen Clark of Lufkin, Marjorie Clark and her husband Shawn Brimley, of Washington, D.C., Lindsay Clark of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Brooke Clark of Austin and her great-grandson, Preston Thomas Clark of Austin. The children of Mary Clark wish to thank their sister-in-law, Nancy Clark, for her tender and loving care of their mother during the last two years of her life. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 22, 2004 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2004 at St. Theresas Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park.
