Martha Lou Althaus "Lulu" Schmeltekopf

Graveside services for Martha Lou Althaus Schmeltekopf (Lulu), 93, of Lufkin, Texas will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kyle Cemetery, County Road 136 (South Old Stagecoach Road), Kyle, Texas 78640. Mrs. Schmeltekopf was born March 12, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Texas, the daughter of Ora Bel Langdon and Lloyd L. Langdon. She passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at PineCrest Retirement Community, Lufkin, Texas.

Mrs. Schmeltekopf was a graduate of Pittsburgh High School and Baylor University School of Nursing. She married Dr. Herbert Otto Althaus of Carmine, Texas on March 12, 1943 and they were long time residents of Austin, Texas where they raised their family. Dr. Althaus passed away in 1983. She later married Charlie F. Schmeltekopf, of San Marcos, Texas. Lulu was a member of the Kyle Garden Club, and an active member of Lutheran and Baptist churches. She loved arranging flowers, gardening, her family, cats, and painting in oils and acrylics. She was a published writer of devotionals.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sons Mark Althaus and Tim Althaus; great-grandson; and son-in-law Chuck Reynolds. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Martha Althaus; daughter, Amy L. Reynolds; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice in the Pines, Lufkin, Texas; Immanuel Baptist Church, Kyle, Texas; or Westover Baptist Church, San Marcos, Texas.
