Martha Clarke "Clarkie" Pennington Hall, of Austin, Texas, passed away on December 3, 2015, at age 76. Born and raised in Jasper, Alabama, Clarkie earned her Bachelors and Master's degrees from the University of Alabama, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
Clarkie and her husband, the late William Edmond"Ed" Hall, also of Jasper, moved to Austin in 1976, where Clarkie became involved with the Junior League, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, her children's schools and other Austin organizations. Later, at age 50, Clarkie started an insurance agency, which is a thriving business to this day. Many of her clients were also her friends, as Clarkie had a warm and genuine way of treating customers like family.
Her friends and family knew her door was always open, welcoming them to a seat next to her favorite chair for conversation and an open ear over the drink of their choice. She loved to travel, taking trips near and far over the years with friends and family. She was loved by many and is and will continue to be greatly missed.
Clarkie is survived by her daughter Martha Pennington Hall Houck and husband Beau Houck, and her granddaughter Lois Houck, all of Brooklyn, New York; and by her daughter Emily Richardson Kumazawa Hall and husband Jun Kumazawa, also of Brooklyn.
A Memorial service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 3201 Windsor Road in Austin, on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 2:30 in the afternoon. In lieu of flowers, the Hall family would appreciate donations to Hospice Austin and St. Andrew's Episcopal School.
