Marsha Lee Higginbotham

April 16, 1951 – February 16, 2023

Marsha Higginbotham went to be with the Lord at the age of 71 on February 16, 2023. Her husband, Alan Higginbotham, was by her side at the time of her passing. She was born in Clanton, Alabama to Edgar Prim Goodgame and Ersa Mae Pearson Goodgame on April 16th, 1951. Her father worked for the Federal Aviation Agency, causing Marsha to move eight times before graduating from Whitehaven High School in Memphis, Tennessee in 1969.

She met Alan while at Memphis State University in 1970 while he was employed by IBM in Huntsville, AL. They married on May 13, 1972 and she graduated in 1973. The couple relocated to Austin, Texas where Marsha took a job with the Texas Department of Health and Human services as a programmer. Marsha climbed the ranks and was promoted many times, eventually reaching the position of Director. She was honored for her four decades of service to the State of Texas at her retirement in 2013.

Marsha and Alan welcomed 2 daughters, Kimberly and Pamela. They were then members of Crestview Baptist Church where they met many lifelong friends. Marsha served as president of her neighborhood association, was a member of her sorority alumni association (Sigma Kappa) and the Longhorn Corvette Club. She volunteered her time at the Texas Baptist Children’s Home and Meals on Wheels. She and Alan later belonged to Hyde Park Baptist Church and Austin Baptist Church. She exemplified the Christ-like servant heart described in Philippians 2:5-7.

Her daughters and grandchildren were her greatest joy. They made memories while vacationing in Galveston and boating on Lake Travis. She was ever an encourager and was the first to send a card or word of encouragement to someone in need. She was a collector of mementos and stored away every card, invitation, birth announcement, report card and program she ever received. Her hobbies included crocheting and shopping and she was always on the hunt for a bargain.

She is survived by her mother, Mae Goodgame, her husband of 50 years, Alan; her daughters, Kimberly Koenig (Rob) and Pamela Kelso (Paxton); her grandchildren, Cecilia Koenig, Grayer Kelso, Vivian Koenig, Hayes Kelso and Bethany Koenig; Brothers-in-law Phil Higginbotham and Gayron Davis, Sister-in-Law Tammy Higginbotham, as well as a beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ed Goodgame and her Sister-in-law, Nancy Higginbotham Davis.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at Austin Baptist Church on Friday, March 3, 2023 at 1 pm, with a reception immediately following.
