Marietta Kendall Shaw died July 27, 2007, of complications from years of living with Alzheimers disease. She died surrounded by the love of her family and friends, and she is now at peace. Marietta was born February 17, 1918, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Charles and Helen Kendall, the 6th of 8 children. She was a graduate of LaGrange High School, and earned a RN Diploma from Brackenridge School of Nursing class of 1941. Marietta was married to Samuel O. Shaw and lived a long life in Austin; first raising their five children; then her second career working as RN at Brackenridge Hospital and St Davids Hospital; lastly her third career after retirement as a volunteer at South Austin Hospital for several years. Marietta was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam O. Shaw; son, Charles W. Shaw and wife, Gay Greenwood Shaw; son, Sam D. Shaw; and grandson, Jason Joseph Shaw. Surviving Marietta are her children, Donald J. Shaw and wife JoAnn of St Louis, Mo; daughter-in-law Josephine Shaw of Dripping Springs; daughters, Marilyn Stark and husband Wayne of Oak Hill and Brenda Allen and husband James of Pflugerville. Also surviving are her sister Helen Cooke and husband Thomas of Lake Charles, La; and brother, Harry H. Kendall and wife Margaret of Oakland, Ca. Mrs. Shaw is survived by 11 grandchildren, their spouses and 12 great grandchildren, the youngest Benjamin Houston Shaw, born earlier this month; also several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 7:00 pm 9:00 pm on Monday, July 30, 2007 at Wilke-Clay Fish Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Wilke-Clay-Fish Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Oak Cemetery in Oak Hill. We would like to thank the staff of Regency Village Care Center for the past 4 years of love and care they have given to Mrs. Shaw. They have been a true blessing. We would like to thank Angel Heart Hospice for their care and love throughout her last months and days, and especially her special friend, Josh.
