Maria Lamar Herbeck Rodriguez

She graduated from Martin High School in 1962 and on June 30, 1963, married Gilberto Rodriguez. They had two children together, Cynthia Lamar (Rodriguez) De Los Santos and Gilberto Mario Rodriguez. Over the course of her life, Lamar always put her family first and always worried about their health and safety. She loved cooking traditional meals for her family and crocheting was a favorite hobby of hers. She loved family gatherings, Christmas, the Bee Gees, coffee, and playing Bunco, and gatherings with the “Magnolias.” She worked in banking, also at McAllen Memorial Library and finally for Austin ISD. She always had an encouraging word to say and a smile on her face. She had an appreciation for life and an understanding of love that is unmatched. Her faith was unwavering and her strength was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Predeceased are her mother Lamar Palacios Herbeck, Aunt Esther Herbeck, and beloved dog Chiquita.

She survived by husband, Gilberto Rodriguez; two children, Cynthia Lamar Rodriguez and Gilberto Mario Rodriguez; and five grandchildren; Drew, Richard Xavier, Megan, Beto, and Sarah; as well, her two younger siblings, August William Herbeck, Jr. of Laredo, TX and Rosemary Fatima Herbeck Potthoff of Los Angeles, CA.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012 at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill Road. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
