Maria married Ignacio Torres and raised three children while traveling the country as a military wife. Maria later moved to California and received her Early Childhood Education Certificate from College of the Desert and became a daycare director. In her 50’s she married Gilbert Enriquez of Corona, CA and became a pastor’s wife. Her passion for the Lord grew so she became a student at Seminario Teologico Bautista Hispano. She committed herself to missionary work, starting churches, leading worship, teaching Sunday school and working in child care. She continued her missionary work after Gilbert succumbed to cancer in 1990.
Maria was an excellent cook. When she wasn’t cooking, baking or babysitting her great grandchildren, she enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and jewelry making.
Maria is survived by her daughter, Grace Garza (Santos); her son, Richard Torres; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Tony Reyes, David Reyes, and Eliseo Reyes.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Demetrio Reyes and Tito Reyes; her son, Ignacio Torres; her husband, Gilbert Enriquez; the father of her children, Ignacio C. Torres; and her granddaughters, Grace Marie Torres and Dorothy Torres.
We know through faith that Maria is resting peacefully in Heaven. We are going to miss her presence here on earth so much. Maria was a warrior for Christ and led by example through her love for others. We know she is singing and rejoicing with her loved ones among the chorus of angels!
