She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma (Booker) and Benjamin Smith; sisters, Janie Lynette Curtice and Sadie Mae White; and brothers, Elbert Smith and John H. Smith.
Mamie was married to the late James F. Hall of Smackover, Arkansas, after his tour of duty as a Naval First Class Seaman. They had one child, Robert W. Hall, currently of Austin. Mamie is also survived by her brother, Gabe Smith of Durham, NC and leaves to mourn her loss several nieces and nephews as well.
Mamie graduated high school in Port Arthur, Texas and was crowned Miss Port Arthur in high school. Mamie was MSC personnel supervisor at NASA Manned Space Craft Center in Clear Lake, Texas where she chose some of the astronauts for the manned space flights. Mamie liked art and music, and she played the piano and electric organ. She also loved animals and had both domestic and wild pets. She found injured and homeless animals and cared for them.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 23, 2011 in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Private Interment will be held at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches, Texas.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of New Hope Manor Nursing Home for the care and concern given to my dear mother for the last three years; she thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo and dominoes.
