Loretta Chapman Thompson, a long time resident of Austin died on October 5, 2004. She was born on October 14, 1907 in Waxahachie, Texas. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. O.H. Chapman, whose families were pioneers of Ellis County. Mrs. Thompson graduated from Hockaday School in Dallas, attended Trinity University, formerly located in Waxahachie, and graduated from The University of Texas. While attending The University she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was a member and ordained Elder of University Presbyterian Church, a past president and member of the Settlement Club of Austin, a member of the Junior League of Austin and the Austin Art League, Group II. Her husband, Emory Bassett Thompson and her daughter-in-law, Jean Powell Thompson preceded her in death. Members of her family include her son Emory Chapman Thompson; grandchildren, Emory Powell Thompson, Ann Thompson Bauer, and Kate Thompson. Also, five great grandchildren, Louis Thompson Bauer, Martin Chapman Bauer, Wilson Thornton Bauer, Taylor Amanda Harriger, and Emory Archer Thompson, all of Austin. The family would like to thank Vera Lange for the many years of friendship, care and service she gave to Mrs. Thompson. Pallbearers will be her grandson, great grandsons and Meade Bauer. Services will be held on Friday, October 8, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will be in Austin Memorial Park.
