Lenora Martinez Barrientes

Lenora was born on November 6, 1923 in Austin where she built her life and raised her family.

Lenora’s first and favorite job was a nurse’s aide at Brackenridge Hospital. This role did not come as a surprise given her helpful and nurturing personality. She also liked working with her hands, which she put into practice as a certified dental technician. She enjoyed this career immensely until her retirement.

Retirement brought more time to do the things she enjoyed: working in her yard, shopping, decorating, watching her soaps and Rangers games, and going on Coushatta gambling trips with her friends and family. She lived a long and happy life for 99 years!

Lenora, Nora, Mom, Grandma, Mom B, Ma B, Tia Nern, and Great-Mama are all names we lovingly called her. She answered to all of them with a twinkle in her eye. Her greatest joy was the family she created and nurtured. She enjoyed the ordinary times together just as much as the special occasions.

Lenora was a great presence in our lives and her strength, faith, compassion, and love will continue to live on in all of us.

She is survived by her daughters, Diane Jaster and Terry Meyer; grandchildren, Nicholas Jaster (Daniella) and Emily Seed (Dan); great-grandchildren, Simon, Alexander, Nora, Anna, and Mira. Survivors also include her nephew, David Segura (Rosemary), and their children; David (Jennifer), Matthew (Erin), and Daniel; son-in-law Gary Jaster; sister-in-law Ruth Martinez; niece Alexandria Moreno (Michael) and their children. She is also survived by many grand and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter (Barbara), son (Jesse), son-in-law (Jon Meyer), sister (Terry Segura), brother (Manuel Martinez), great-nephew (Stephen Segura), and niece (Regina Casares). Services will be private for family and those close to her.

A special thanks to Silvia Viurquez, who provided exceptional care and loyal companionship as Nora’s caregiver. Silvia was with her at the time of death.
