Larry graduated from Jonesboro High School, Indiana, in 1941. He learned drafting from the International Correspondence School. He attended Chicago Technical College in 1943 and International College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to learn business accounting.
He married Dolores Wilson on November 7, 1948. They were married 67 years. They eventually moved to Marion, Indiana. They had two daughters, Cheryl and Phyllis. In August of 1958, they relocated to Phoenix, Arizona. Larry worked for AiResearch, later Talley Industries, and completed his career at Motorola as a cost accountant. He retired from Motorola in 1985. In retirement, they escaped the Arizona summers by traveling all over the USA in their RV for ten years.
Larry was active as a member of Scottsdale Baptist Church in Scottsdale, Arizona (now New Life Community Church) for 47 years before moving to California. He served on the Deacon's Board, Missions Committee, Visitations Committee and the Audit Committee.
He and his wife, Dolores, founded D & L Tract Ministry. It originated in a project to send tracts to people listed in their local newspaper who were entering the hospital. One of the first tracts was a pocket-sized calendar with scripture on the back. This eventually led to the founding of a non-profit organization in 1952 for the purpose of distributing gospel literature. It produced 12 different titles which they distributed around the world in over 27 languages. He printed multiple thousands of copies over the course of his life. Throughout his life, he found many opportunities to share his faith with people he met.
He enjoyed playing Mah jongg, dominoes and other games with friends and family. He enjoyed conversations with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Zoom calls. He loved seeing and holding each new great-grandchild and faithfully sent each of them a card on their birthday.
Larry relocated to Mariposa, California, in 2015 after the death of his wife, to live with his daughter Phyllis Smith and her husband Ray. He again relocated to Austin, Texas, in 2018, to live with his daughter Cheryl Macdonald. He died at the age of 101 on March 17, 2025, in Austin, Texas.
