Kelly Rey Robinson

Kelly was a shooting star to all who knew him. He lived life to the fullest, and never looked back. Almost everyone who knew him has stories about this, and a lot of people knew him. He was such a kind, loving, charismatic and colorful man, that he drew people to him from all walks of life.

Kelly was a creator, both in the kitchen (at Dell and Bartlett’s, Houston’s, Skyline Grill and even Dan McKlusky’s early in his culinary career) and in the recording studio. His musical career as a singer songwriter started early and spanned nearly four decades. His bands included Raspberry Jam, Yard Apes, Bakin Brownies, and for those of you who didn’t know, a garage band by the name of Black Diamond.

He loved to travel, his favorite destination being, of course, Amsterdam, where he visited his friend Leo several times. My trip to New York with him was one of the most memorable trips of my life, for sure.

In his later years Kelly spent most of his energy promoting the legacy of his father, James B. Robinson, to whom he attributed most of his creative genius. He also got into saltwater fish, skydiving, and even did a little painting of his own.

We will all miss Kelly, and his parting has left a big hole in all of our hearts.

Kelly is survived by his brother, Russell Robinson and his sister, Carla Robinson.

Services for Kelly will be held on Saturday, February 11th at Austin Memorial Park: 2800 Hancock in Austin, Texas: 1pm.

We will follow up with an informal get together at Kelly’s house: 5510 Roosevelt, Austin, TX.
