Judy Ann (Rickabaugh) Johnson, 73, passed away peacefully at her home on November 7, 2024 after battling pulmonary fibrosis. She was surrounded by family during her final days and is now at home with her Heavenly Father.
Judy was born on November 24, 1950 in Tulsa, OK to Dwight and Norma Jean Rickabaugh. After graduating from Edison High School, she joined her older sister at Baylor University, in Waco, TX, where she studied Elementary Education. She became a member of The Athenean Club (now Kappa Kappa Gamma) in the spring of 1971. Judy began teaching public school in the Houston area post graduation. In 1979 she moved to Longview, TX where she would raise her children and actively serve her community through school PTAs, The Junior League, Garden Club, Longview Community Ministries, and First Baptist Church.
Judy moved to Austin in 2020 and quickly began building friendships and involving herself within the community. Her joy of learning led her to become a member of UT Ollie Sage at the University of Texas, as well as local book clubs. Judy was also a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church and greatly enjoyed volunteering as a greeter and being part of Lamplighters Bible Study.
Judy was a wonderful and adoring mother, grandmother “Honey”, sister, aunt, and friend. Her giggling personality and wittiness were infectious. She loved her family and friends dearly and spent many of her days surrounded by them. She was an avid traveler, sideline cheerleader, music lover, book enthusiast, pianist, and animal devotee. Judy’s bright spirit, love for her family, and dedication to helping others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Norma Jean and Dwight Rickabaugh and sister Jeannette (Carl) Christman. She is survived by her four children: Dustin (Amy) Johnson, Katy (Paul) Tozour, Tyler (Ashley) Johnson, and Michael (Brittnee) Johnson. Grandchildren: Rylee, Nathan, Jack, Noah, Henry, Charlie, Eloise, Mason, and soon to be expected Madison.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Judy‘s life on Saturday, November 16, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 3003 Northland Drive, Austin, TX. The family extends an invitation to gather from 11:30 - 1:00pm in the lower level of the Fellowship & Education building. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00pm in the Sanctuary. Graveside Service will take place at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the ceremony.
