JR Edwards

John R. Edwards, Jr. of Austin, Texas, passed away on Saturday, November 09, 2013 in Smithville, Texas. Born February 22, 1921 in Rule, Texas, he was the ninth of twelve children born to his parents JR and Nettie Boynton Edwards.

John was a member of the United States Army, where he faithfully served his country. In 1941, he married his wife, Frankie Lee Alsobrook Edwards in Tarrant County. John worked in facility maintenance with the Texas Highway Department where he retired after over 30 years of service.

John is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Frankie Lee Edwards and his great-grandson, Reese Perkins. He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Opal Woods and husband John of Oklahoma. And his children- Ronald Eugene Edwards, Wayland Cordell Edwards and wife Anette, and Mary Edna Perkins and husband Robert. He also leaves behind four grandchildren- Staci Bradshaw and husband Ronnie (of Florida), Amy Michele Bruder and husband Chris, Rob Perkins and wife Janet, and Jon Todd Edwards; seven great-grandchildren Olivia Bradshaw, Gunnar Bradshaw, Haydn Bruder, Oakley Bruder, Owen Bruder, River Perkins, and Zane Perkins, and a host of friends and family.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock to seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas.

A funeral service will be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Brentwood Oaks Church of Christ, 11908 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas.

Interment to immediately follow at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Cemetery, Pflugerville, Texas.
